Hackblade

Hackblade is a solo and cooperative miniature agnostic skirmish game set in the grimdark fantasy world of Gallowfane. Engage in battle across the Blighted Overworld, represented by two, 8.5”x11” game boards, and the Ruinous Caverns beneath, represented by 4”x6” dungeon tiles and a single 8.5”x11” game board. Wield your brutal hackblade as a Stitcher, a powerful champion in service of the warrior god Acheron, and bring his wrath to the hostiles that have invaded Gallowfane through the Nebulosis. Upgrade your skills on the Loom of Carnage, chain powerful attacks as you accumulate Vengeance, and explore a procedurally generated world ravaged by harsh environmental effects.

To live in Gallowfane is to exist in hardship. Survival for any length of time is an exception, and for those strong enough to bear arms, service in the Fiend Breakers is a requirement. It is a post from which none may retire, and each day brings with it new threats and challenges. Food and drinkable water is scarce, and venturing into the wilds is considered a death sentence to even the most experienced explorer. For the unfortunate souls who do reside in Gallowfane, many of them have formed small communities of resistance and survival, keeping to the ruins of small towns or retreating further into the vast tunnel network that spans much of the countryside. 

Once a flourishing world of prosperity, the arrival of foul creatures and dangerous hostiles through the Rift Lands would lead to the destruction of Gallowfane. Swept away by a wave of destruction, there is little semblance of the might that Gallowfane once possessed. Gone too is the promise of an afterlife, with the hostiles bringing with them the Charnel Mist. Emerging from the Rift Lands as a dense fog that clots the very atmosphere, the Charnel Mist is summoned by a host of dark magics, throttling access the people of Gallowfane once had to their gods. Only through a ritual known as the Holmdrang are the spirits of the dead allowed to ascend beyond their mortal coils. All that remains is a foreboding wasteland, with the promise of conflict at nearly every turn. Despite this, against all odds, there are those who keep faith in their warrior god Acheron, in the hopes he will one day return and retake their homeland. 

Unable to walk the world as he once did, Acheron and the surviving pantheon of gods remain determined to liberate Gallowfane from the powerful aggressors that stripped it from them, and annihilate the Charnel Mist that chokes the souls of Gallowfane’s survivors. Though unable to enact his vengeance in person, Acheron has taken up the Loom of Carnage from his fallen brother, and woven into existence powerful champions to fight in his stead.

As the vengeance of Acheron made manifest on the mortal plane, you are tasked with the purpose of retrieving souls of fallen warriors and bringing destruction to the enemies of Gallowfane. Known as a Stitcher, you will weave your tale of carnage and destruction through the Blighted Overworld that remains of Gallowfane and the Ruinous Caverns beneath.
